What kind of accommodation is available in Tanzania?

In Tanzania you can choose from a wide variety of accommodation. The country has become very well structured over the years, allowing for all types of accommodation. Within the city there are a variety of hotels, inns, resorts and guest houses. While staying in one of the National Parks you can stay in comfortable bungalows, a tented camp, Hemingway-style tented camps or luxury lodges. The usually check-in times at accommodation establishments are 2pm or 3pm with check-out being at 12pm noon.

Is Tanzania a good family destination?

Tanzania has a variety of accommodation venues which cater for children. There are some establishments which provide children activities like kiddies adventures, kiddies clubs and toy boxes. Most lodges won’t accommodate children under eight or twelve years old for safety reasons. Some of the hotels accommodate children of all ages. In these cases, children under five years old cannot participate in game drives.

Is Tanzania a Special Needs and Wheelchair friendly destination?

In Dar es Salaam there are a few luxury hotels and lodges which offer accommodation for the physically challenged person. In the wildlife destinations, there are very few lodges set-up for physically challenged people, but most of the time they are hard to come by. Due to the friendly and helpful nature of the locals, you will get all the assistance you need.

International Airports will offer everything you need, but of course not as fast as you would be accustomed to. The domestic airports are not that well prepared for physically challenged persons, so they would have to lift you from your seat to your wheelchair. When it comes to road transfers, medication, etc; always make sure to explain your needs clearly. In wildlife reserves, the roads are bumpy so it might be wise to get some padding.

Since not all the accommodation establishments have grab handles and rails, you might have to do your ablutions in your bedroom or get carried to the bathroom. Please note that if you are on any medication, bring enough medication with you and know the details of your condition if you need to explain anything to a doctor.
